Tattoo Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Tattoo Removal

My tattoo has lots of colours. Can it be removed?

Usually, but not always. We use state of the art lasers and the newest techniques. Some colours may require more treatments, but they can be usually removed. Some colours cannot be removed. Certain shades of purples, pinks, yellow, and white are examples of colours that may not be removable.

Will it be gone after my first treatment?

No. There are several different factors involved in determining how many treatments your particular tattoo will require, but between 5 and 8 treatments is average.

I had my first treatment and nothing seems different. Is this normal?

Yes. Some people may even see their tattoo get darker with their first treatment. Everyone responds at a different rate. But you should observe more results with subsequent visits.

I had a treatment a week ago and it seems all healed. Can I come back sooner than six weeks?

Healing is not the reason for the spacing of your treatments. The laser does not expel the ink, it breaks it up so your body's immune system can take it away. If you treat your tattoo too frequently, the laser is simply targeting the ink your body hasn't had the chance to remove, and you pay more for the same result.

Are there any limitations after treatment?

You may resume all activities soon after treatment, provided you ensure the area is not rubbed or scratched. If you are in the sun, you should cover the treated area to prevent sunburn until the skin has healed.

WILL THE LASER WORK ON ACNE SCARS?

Yes. The fractional CO2 is an excellent tool to treat acne scars. Having suffered acne and acne scars, I know it is a continuous and long battle. Patients will receive a customised Chinese medicine treatment together with laser treatment if necessary.

I love this tattoo, but there's this one part that bugs me. Can I have just a piece of it removed?

Yes. We can take the face off your pin-up girl to have it redone. We can take just the name off the banner across your heart. Our lasers are very accurate.

I have permanent make-up (lip liner, eyeliner). Can you remove it?

We do not treat these types of tattoos. Some cosmetic inks have metallic bases. When the laser comes in contact with these inks, it can turn black. Be cautious of anyone who says they can effectively remove cosmetic ink. Once this darkening occurs, it cannot be removed by any laser. You may end up with permanent black lip liner. Tattooed eyeliner cannot be removed due to the danger of the laser near the eye, and the ink in permanent eyebrows could migrate up the forehead causing a shadow effect.

What Kind of Tattoos can be treated?

Q-Switch laser systems can now remove all types of tattoo with little or no scarring. Professional and amateur tattoos, as well as traumatic tattoos, resulting from accidents, are treated successfully.

Can the Q-Switched Laser Remove all Colour Tattoos?

The Q-Switched Laser is the workhorse of tattoo removal. It's especially suited to the removal of dark blue and black inks. The frequency doubled Q-Switched Laser is used to remove red and orange tattoos.

Why Choose the Q-Switched Laser?

The scarring and pain associated with these procedures is often more offensive than the tattoo itself. Salabrasion and dermabrasion - the 'sanding' of the pigmented skin, can cause trauma, bleeding and significant scarring. Invasive incision, the actual cutting out of tattoos, leaves scars and is only suitable for small areas. For larger tattoos, there's skin grafting, which leaves scars at the sites of both tattoo and graft.
Q-Switched Lasers offer significant advantages over these previous methods of tattoo removal, and are presently the treatment of choice for those in the know.

How does it work?

Tattoo ink and natural pigmentation like melanin absorb short pulse duration/high peak energy Q-switched pulses so quickly that they create a photo-acoustic effect within the pigment clusters. This effect breaks down the ink into much smaller particles that can be more easily removed by the body's natural filtering system.

What are the key advantages of the Q-switched laser?

Safe way to remove unwanted tattoos
Effective treatment for dark tattoo inks (black, blue and green)
Dramatic results after several treatments
Safe, Effective and Relatively Painless
Q-Switch laser technology offers high efficiency at a very low risk. It enables effective tattoo removal with little chance of side effects.

While discomfort varies from individual to individual, most people tolerate Q-Switched tattoo removal treatment well and describe the sensation as a rubber band snap to the skin. The majority of patients require no anaesthesia, though topical anaesthetic is an option for sensitive areas.
